Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Hey there. I made this 2nd album of sad distant past songs (cover art originally by Ryan Wyrick, lovingly destroyed by me, for symbolic effect). Ended up moving most of em to jessicafogle.bandcamp.com now, which is music from when I lived in Chicago (more warped cabaret and piano ballads) but I selected a few faves to keep here on JiTR because perhaps you are sad, and if so maybe you will feel comforted by my sad past? This disc has the ones I like most on it, with other doodles and handwritten things by me. Figured someone might be a collector or have OCD and want to own all 12 for posterity, and this was the best I could stomach putting out in the world w my name on it. xo <3

Just another funny song From a sad sad girl Just another funny song will do Just another funny song to take away the pain When she feels like running home to you Just another quiet song From a powerful girl Who finds anger too unkind So she writes her secret songs in codes of red & blue When she’d prefer to speak her mind. And I love you Like the rain that I want to go away And I love you like the drug that taught me not to stay Just another simple song From a mixed-up girl Who’d rather be nice than right She simplifies the song It gives her ground to stand on As she moves in black and white And I love you like the moon that can’t light on its own And I love you like a doll that isn’t real, but is all I’ve ever known (you’re not real but you’re all I’ve ever known) So here’s an honest song From a scared scared girl Who’d like to let you go tonight Yea it’s an honest song from a made-up girl who lives in black and white who can’t tell the day from night she lives in black and white.

I know someone who wants the sun all the time And she doesn’t seem to mind that her wish would scorch the world I know someone who lives inside her mind And she doesn’t seem to find any other way to get by …She says goodbye all the time I know a man who does everything he should And he doesn’t seem to mind That it won’t do him any good I know a boy that’s buried in this man And he doesn’t seem to know What he is and isn’t greater than …And I feel sorry for this man We’ll always be broken in some way And I can judge you or I can look away But we’ll always be broken in one place or two But I’m getting there How about you? I know a girl who lives a halfway kind of life She traces round the parts of her She’d like to leave behind She’s got a friend who lives in suits and ties And he leaves his heart at the door on the way to sell his lies. …But oh how hard he tries. We’ll always be broken in some way And I can judge you or I can look away But we’ll always be broken in one place or two But I’m getting there How about you? I know myself Not as well as I’d like to But I’m getting there How about you?

The caterpillar can’t see what lies ahead Though his cocoon awaits he’s not filled with dread He inches along toward his caterpillar fate If he were like us, he would hesitate Standing frozen he would speculate Falling off this flat earth Only to discover that its round My caterpillar heart tells me truth is in the ground His little legs they move him from day to day He doesn’t sit and ponder his life away And while his cocoon must be pretty dark inside Without it he can’t be a butterfly So what’s the use in being terrified of Falling off this flat earth Only to discover that its round My caterpillar heart tells me truth is in the ground Poking at our thoughts like there's something to be found Sacrificing lambs til we find an indifferent God So is there more to confidence than this faith mirage? Falling off this flat earth Only to discover that its round My caterpillar heart tells me truth is in the ground

about

Note: felt the need to move this album over to my JF Bandcamp from Chicago (jessicafogle.bandcamp.com), since these songs were written there mostly, and don't fit my current vibe. They make me feel so past tense and sad that eventually I'll probably just move everything old over there, except the little kids album (Childhood)...cuz that one feels more like now-me than anything else really. Left a few of these songs up here for now tho <3 (anything I'd be willing to play in a show) xo <3 J

Original release message:
Album 4.5 of 12 this year, or 'the rest of the album from last month' (feels too connected to count as this month's album, i.e. as number 5 of 12).

These are songs written in my early to mid 20s, during one of the most hopeless periods of my life. If you are feeling hopeless, on any topic for any reason, this is for you. Though, I recommend you stay tuned and listen to my more existential stuff immediately following (Time & the Sky, Make-Believe, Misfits, and more), because I believe we can transcend this shit.

xo to all the people who have tirelessly helped me transcend things, despite my wordy unresolved nature.

Also, no shame in calling hotlines, EVER. FYI I called hotlines almost every night for about two years - talking to strangers who I had no accountability to, or throughline with, probably saved my life. Sometimes we need to change our story a thousand times, until we're ready to hear the same truths from our mouths, or harder, hear them from other people's.

<3 Everyone is broken. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
(and don't believe the picture presented to you on social media - we are all posing and/or cherry-picking, no one is golden)

(but life is still beautiful in a hyper-real and semi-tragic everything-dies sort of way...take a deep breath, if you can, and be here now, everything changes and passes and becomes something else...even you) <3
